I am a sucker for the first gen Caravan. Most are extinct, or in worse conditions than some of David Tracy’s fleet.

Check out what I found on Facebook Marketplace.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

210,000 m iles, clean body, plenty of upgrades, rebuilt trans, and comes with almost an entire engine and manual trans ready for a swap. There’s only one thing I love more than vans; and that’s a van with a stick. Only caveat is the current engine has blowby.

As of right meow, I have two loans taken out. A third will affect my credit pretty well. But this....this is a unicorn in my eyes. Need opinions from you all.

*PS-My manual  Renegade write up is almost done. Need to take some pictures to go with the text, and add a little more content.*

Easy = Engine has blowby is seller speak for broken pistons and rings. Consequences of all that boost...... Check the compression. Buy it only if you want a project.

Granted it is not that hard for you to change the pistons assuming you can get the pan off with the engine in the car and assuming the bores aren’t too banged up, but it sounds like a project.

Definitely will be a project. Piston removal looks simple, no engine removal necessary. pistons and rings are decently priced. What really caught my attention (besides the exceptional shape the body and interior is), is the extra parts that come with it. A manual transmission minivan will be a thrill to drive.

Guessing you passed on this.

Looking at those pics, this thing had some shady body work done, meaning it was likely a rust mess underneath.

There’s a Sport Wagon on my local CL I keep wanting, then I look at the shady body work and run away:  https://chicago.craigslist.org/wcl/cto/d/dodge-caravan/6723937285.html

That too caught my eye. I also liked the lack of third row. Good place to store the Ruckus for long trips. I’m having trouble finding the shady bodywork you speak of. Of course, the plastics are weather beaten. But thats all I can see except the unpainted hood.

The bottom of these aren’t plastic, that warped look on the bottom of the doors/rockers is a poor filler job.....

Trust me, I had a Sport Wagon, it shouldn’t look like that:

Good to know. Probably won’t last long in these Michigan winters.

Guessing this van was a result of Michigan winters. The owner decided to “fix” it to sell it, did a half ass job, and is now expecting mint price for a shitbox.

This side shot tells me all I need to know:

I see it now. I will not pay more than $800 for it.

I wouldn’t give more than $400, it’s a shitshow IMO.

I gave $600 for the black one I posted, it had just over 100k when we bought it and one small rust bubble. Needed an alternator installed (dude had one, tore it apart, but couldn’t figure out how to get it out and gave up).

My current I gave $650 for with 170k. It had one small rust spot but was spotless inside, had all maintenance records since new, and needed valve cover gaskets.

Honestly I think this one is the best deal on CL right now: https://chicago.craigslist.org/nwc/cto/d/1988-plymouth-grand-voyager/6729098597.html

I’d be willing to bet he’d take $600 cash for it.

I am really itching to get this one. Has the PS pump in hand, and needs a simple brake line to the booster. Unfortunately, he hasn’t responded to my emails yet.

Likely he doesn’t have email or doesn’t check it. He has his number listed (630) 289-6172, why not call if you’re really interested?
